In its commitment to improving the health care of women and vulnerable ones in the State, the State Government has offered women free breast cancer screening to reduce the incidence of breast cancer across the 33 Local Government Areas in the State.
The Wife of the Executive Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Tamunominini Olufunke Makinde made this disclosure on Friday while flagging off the 2nd quarter of Omituntun free health mission held at the State Hospital, Oyo town, Oyo State.
According to Engr. Makinde, breast cancer is one of the deadliest types of cancer affecting women globally especially in Nigeria, it represents 12% of all the cancer cases and 25% of all cancer in women. Hence, the Omituntun for Life Foundation in collaboration with the Ministry of Health is putting machinery in place to ensure the menace of breast cancer is reduced to the barest minimum.
She stressed further that there will be a free treatment for those people who are diagnosed and remove breast tumor cells during the ongoing Omituntun free medical mission for the second quarter of this year.
Mrs. Makinde noted that the present administration under the amiable Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Oluseyi Makinde is committed to supporting free access to health care service delivery of Omituntun which targeted over 400,000 people for the 2nd quarter across the State.
She revealed that the primary medical treatment for the 2nd quarter includes Malaria, HIV, Hepatitis B, Hypertension, and Diabetes while the surgical treatment of ailments such as Hernia, Lymphoma, Ganglion, Dental care, and Optical services, which includes cataract surgery, treatment of other eye ailments as well as giving out free prescribed glasses to the patients.
Earlier in his welcome address, Commissioner for Health, Dr. Bashir Bello commended the efforts and commitment of the First Lady towards delivering free health care services to the people of the State for the 2nd quarter of this year.
Dr. Bello also appreciated the officials of Omituntun for Life Foundation and other medical personnel from different hospitals that support the present government on the success of this free health mission.
Some of the dignitaries that graced the occasion were the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Inclusion, Alhaja Faosat Sanni, Commissioner for Special Duties, Hon. Olufunmilayo Orisadeyi, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Diaspora, Hon. Bolanle Sarumi, the Chairman of Oyo State Hospitals Management Board, Dr. Gbola Adetunji, the Chairman of Atiba Local Government Areas, Hon. Kafila Olakojo, Permanent Secretaries, Directors, and others.
