The National Emergency Management Authority has urged Oyo state residents to embrace environmental sanitation and desist from blocking waterways as the rainy season approaches.
The Acting Zonal Coordinator, National Emergency Management Agency, Southwest zonal office, Mr. Akiode Saheed made the remark during stakeholders meeting on disaster management.
According to the NEMA Acting zonal Coordinator, the meeting will add more value to the Agency’s strong drive of building community resilience to disaster.
He pointed out that NEMA’s target is to ensure that emergencies are handled in line with international best practices.
Mr. Akiode Saheed said the Agency in collaboration with critical stakeholders will continue to synergize on ways to avert flooding and increase awareness on how to address challenges peculiar to each environment.
Raining season is coming and we are looking at Nimet predictions and activate plans that can be executed so that when the predictions come, we can harmonize them. ‘
He called for dredging of drainage and clearing of water ways in preparation for the rainy season.
