The Zonal Director, National Broadcasting Commission, NBC, Oyo State, Mr. Rapheal Akpan has urged broadcasters to adhere to the rules of election coverage stipulated by the NBC, ahead of the gubernatorial and state assembly elections slated for the 18th of this month.
Mr. Akpan who made the remark during a telephone interview with Pensioners FM commended the media for the role the men of the fourth estate played in the just concluded Presidential and National Assembly election.
According to Mr. Akpan, most broadcasters in the state adhered to the guidelines guarding election coverage.
While fielding questions on how to checkmate fake news on social media, Mr. Akpan noted that the commission is not responsible for now to gatekeep it.,
He however advised newsmen to always verify news content on social media before use, stressing that they should fact-check the source, I, and credibility of any news item before broadcast or publication.
