Wife of the Oyo State Governor, Engr. (Mrs.) Tamunominini Makinde has assured good women of Oyo State that their rights will not be trampled upon because women add value to the development and progress of Oyo State.

Mrs. Makinde made this assurance during a familiarization tour and thank you visit women in all local government areas and LCDAs in Oke-Ogun 1&2 geopolitical zone, held at Iseyin and Saki Town Hall, Oyo State.

According to the First Lady, “I will walk with you to ensure that women’s rights are not trampled upon in Oyo state. Women are important, “we are like the salt that adds flavor to everywhere we find ourselves, so, I will ensure that our women are taught how to fish, not giving fish because when you empower a woman, you empower your whole household, you are not just empowering a woman”.

Mrs. Makinde however, thanked the good women of Oke-Ogun for the support and love showing to Oyo State Government and vote were given to her husband, the Executive Governor of Oyo State, Engr.Oluseyi Makinde during the electioneering campaign.

She said “I am overwhelmed with the gratitude that you have continue to show to us and the support, I am not alone in my appreciation as His Excellency send his regards. I want to say E Ku Ise, thank you very much for supporting us”.

First Lady stressed that this visit is an official beginning of a long fruitful relationships with women in the Oke-Ogun area. “My mothers and my sisters, I want to say thank you, as I am here to know you, listen to you and your needs. My hears are opened to you women of Oke-Ogun area”.

She commended all Chairpersons for the activities carried out in the oke-Ogun zone to improve the lives of women and children especially campaign against rape and the sexual-based violence.

Mrs. Makinde therefore, lauded all the caretaker chairmen, for supporting all the women and activities carried out in their various local government areas and LCDAs, thanking them because they are right beside them and she implored them to continue to support the women.

“My dear mothers and sisters, am working with the chairmen to see how we can work and improve on certain things as well as put something together so that we can use it to do empowerment program for women,” she said.

In her goodwill messages, the wife of the deputy governor, prof. Bolanle Olaniyan said that the essence of coming here is to say thank you and paid a courtesy visit to all local governments areas and LCDAs in Oke-Ogun geo-political zone for supporting, cooperating, and praying for this government, adding that, we supposed to do this long time due to Covid 19 that’s why we can not proceed on this familiarization tour.

Prof. Olaniyan however, encouraged women to continuously participate in government so that they too will have a says in governance because what men can do women can do better, stressing that, women should take good care of their children and we should stop child trafficking/labour in Oke- Ogun area such as Saki, Ago-Are, Igboho, Irepo and so on.

In her goodwill messages, the Honourable Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Inclusion, Hon. (Alhaja) Faosat Sanni described women as an agent of change and great substance who can bring about positive development in their homes and society, hence, enjoined all stakeholders in local government and LCDA’s to bring to the forefront of their agenda, life-transforming programs that can create in our women a sense of belonging and make them contribute their quota to the development of the society.

Alhaja Sanni reiterated that there is a great need to broaden the domain of knowledge and improve the skills of our women to make them less-dependable, especially on their husbands, and be more self-reliant through realistic and sustainable empowerment programs.

In their welcome address, the chairperson, Saki East local government, Hon. (Mrs.) Adeniran Rahmat and the chairperson, Iseyin local government, Hon. (Mrs.) Mujidat Abilawon commended the effort of the State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde for the involvement of women in the politics of Oyo State and the on-going rehabilitation of Iseyin-Moniya road for easy movement of the motorists.

They stressed further that, operation “Say no to Rape” campaign embarked by the Wife of Oyo State Governor, Engr. (Mrs.) Tamunominini Makinde is yielding a positive result as the menace has reduced drastically in our various local government areas and LCDA’s.

Some dignitaries at the event include the Commissioner for Special Duties, Mrs. Funmilayo Orisadeyi, Senior Special Assistance on Diaspora, Hon. Bolanle Sarumi, the Seven Zonal Caretaker Chairmen Representatives, PDP State Women Leader, Alhaja Wulemo Ibitoye, Part-time Commissioner, Oyo state local government service commission, Hon. Nike Arewa and Directors from the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Inclusion.
