The Federal Government has expressed its satisfaction with the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), praising it as a leading counter-trafficking agency that mentors other countries in Sub-Saharan Africa and beyond.
The accolades were given during the 20th-anniversary celebration of NAPTIP and the 2023 World Day Against Human Trafficking, where the agency’s achievements were highlighted.
The Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management, and Social Development, Dr. Nasir Gwarzo, emphasized NAPTIP’s success in coordinating regional efforts to combat human trafficking globally.
Represented by the Director of, the Humanitarian Department Affairs, Alhaji Grema Ali, the Permanent Secretary, maintained that, NAPTIP has not only lived up to the expectation of its founding fathers and other partners across the World, but it has succeeded in coordinating regional efforts thereby enhancing the fight against human trafficking globally.
“Notable achievements included various awareness campaigns to educate people about the issue, partnering with community leaders, religious groups, and media to reach wider audiences.”
The Director General of NAPTIP, Prof. Fatima Waziri–Azi, addressed the media and stakeholders, describing the agency’s 20 years of growth, reinvention, and expansion.
Prof Wasiri-Azi pointed out that, despite the alarming global statistics on human trafficking, Nigeria is better prepared to tackle this issue through collaborative efforts from everyone involved.
