Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State is receiving commendation for his generous support to authentic farmers across all 33 local government areas in the state. Residents of Ogbomoso South, Surulere, and Oriire local governments were thrilled to receive their farm assets during a distribution event held at the headquarters of their respective local governments.
The joint effort between OYS-Cares and the World Bank, under the Oyo State Agribusiness Development Agency (OYSADA), reflects Governor Makinde’s commitment to assisting farmers impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic and ensuring food security throughout the state.
In a recent state-wide broadcast, the Governor outlined various measures, including those for food security and transportation, to address economic challenges resulting from the removal of fuel subsidies.
Governor Makinde stated, “To ensure food security in the state, we will be distributing additional farm inputs to 10,000 farmers. This is in addition to the input support being provided under the World Bank assisted OYS-CARES program.”
Farmers who benefited from the initiative expressed their gratitude and shared positive feedback with journalists after receiving farm assets like cassava cuttings, fertilizer, and herbicides. The distribution aims to enhance agricultural productivity and bolster the state’s food security.
Mr. Kolawole Adewumi Bamigbola, the state coordinator for Nigeria Covid-19 Action Recovery and Economic Stimulus (N-Cares) Result Area 2, explained that a total of ninety (90) beneficiaries, comprising 70 cassava farmers and 20 maize farmers from Ogbomoso South, would take home farm inputs worth millions of naira.
In various local government areas, farmers were divided into groups, with each beneficiary receiving bundles of cassava cuttings, fertilizer, and herbicides to enhance their agricultural production.
Hon. Oyedokun Oyeniyi Timothy, the Executive Chairman of Ogbomoso South local government, lauded Governor Seyi Makinde for the intervention, describing his administration as a “talk and do government.” He encouraged the beneficiaries, especially the youth, to utilize the resources provided to increase their farm produce and contribute to ensuring food security in the state.
